Zimbabwe Election History and Reasons Against ZANU-PF
Violent Tactics
ZANU-PF has a notorious history of using violence and intimidation during elections. From the 2000 parliamentary elections, where opposition supporters were assaulted, to the brutal crackdown in the 2008 elections, to today where violence continues, these tactics undermine democracy.
Electoral Fraud
Numerous reports have highlighted systematic electoral fraud by ZANU-PF. The manipulation of voter rolls and ballot tampering have been prevalent, raising questions about the legitimacy of their victories. In order to minimise electoral fraud we suggest:
Economic Mismanagement
Since gaining independence in 1980, ZANU-PF's policies have led to economic decline, hyperinflation, and unemployment. Many Zimbabweans have faced hardship as a result of their governance.
Suppression of Opposition
ZANU-PF has consistently worked to quash differing opinions, jailing opposition leaders and restricting freedom of speech. This creates an environment where genuine political dialogue is stifled.
Land Reforms Gone Wrong
The chaotic land reform program initiated by ZANU-PF in the early 2000s resulted in food shortages and agricultural collapse, negatively impacting the economy.
ZANU-PF's history is marred by violence, fraud, and mismanagement, and these problems are still continuing, making them an unsuitable choice for a thriving democratic Zimbabwe.
